Tips and Tricks: Energy@Work’s Holiday Challenge

Here are some of Energy@Work’s tips and tricks to “slaying” phantom power over the holidays- and all year round!

  • Unplug phone and tablet chargers

  • Switch off lights

  • Unplug kitchen appliances (toaster, coffee maker, kettle etc.)

  • Group together appliances using a power bar- use a self-timed power bar for effortless savings

  • Wear a sweater to avoid turning up the heat

  • Use stairs when possible

  • Turn off computers, monitors and TVs, screen savers don’t save energy

  • Unplug/dispose of unnecessary appliances (extra fridge, photocopier, printer etc.)

  • Avoid printing when possible- this will save energy and paper!

Good luck on this year’s challenge and Happy holidays!

What is phantom power?

Energy used by electronics that are turned off is phantom power- and it probably accounts for more of your electricity bill than you know!
