Congratulations 400 University: 2019 Energy Star Building Certified with a score of 92! and managed by Crown Property Management. 400 University can now proudly display their Energy Star Building Label Certification, a clear indication that it is an energy-efficient top performing building with an excellent utility cost index, attributed directly to the collaborative effort by the team at Crown Property Management.


Energy@Work was enlisted to create an Energy Management Action Plan (E-MAP) to reduce energy use while maintaining tenant comfort and a proud partner in their team.

Holiday Challenge: Tips and Tricks

Good luck in the 2019 Holiday Challenge!

Challenge Date: December 20th, 2019 to January 6th, 2020

Here are some tips to help you slay phantom power this holiday season:

  • Big screen TV’s are the biggest culprit, ensure they are OFF

  • Don’t use a screen saver, instead, unplug your computer or monitor

  • Switch off lights

  • Unplug kitchen appliances (toaster, coffee maker, kettle)

  • Use a self-timed power bar to group together electronics and have them automatically shut down- for effortless savings

  • Unplug chargers for cellphones and tablets

  • Unplug/dispose of unnecessary electronics (extra fridge, photocopier/printer)

Lisa Liang, Energy@Work’s Program Director and a BOMA Toronto race2reduce Ambassador, Shares her Top2Tips: Simple Operational Changes that Help Save on Energy

Lisa is one of BOMA Toronto’s first r2r ambassadors and specializes in tenant-landlord engagement and environmental standards and compliance including BOMA BEST certification and mandatory provincial reporting for Energy and Water Reporting and Benchmarking (EWRB). She works closely with property management to highlight and encourage energy efficiency practices by building on existing collaboration between tenants and landlords through her 5-themed Building Beyond Green program.

Curtis Deenah, Energy@Work’s Energy Manager and a BOMA Toronto race2reduce Ambassador, Shares his Top2Tips on the Importance of Benchmarking

Curtis’ focus lies in operational engagement and energy efficiency improvement by implementing Energy@Work’s Energy Management Action Plan (E-MAP), which allows establishment of energy baselines and measurement and verification plans to quantify energy savings. Curtis’s role as Energy Manager also involves providing technical expertise and recommending strategies such as “low cost – no cost” measures aimed at improving operational efficiency while maintaining equipment safety and tenant comfort. Curtis works collaboratively with Energy@Work’s Lisa Liang and the management and operational staff to effect positive cultural changes that creates a “win-win” for all stakeholders.


Congratulations to this Year’s BOMA Toronto Race2Reduce Winners!

Commercial real estate industry trailblazers (CREST) were honoured for energy-saving achievements last night, marking another year of progress in Toronto’s race2reduce. Front runners emerged from 650 buildings now pursuing the target to collectively reduce energy consumption by 10 per cent compared to 2017, and were recognized for leadership, innovation and collaboration in devising and delivering on conservation initiatives.

“Climate Action: $700,000 in savings with no Capital, Energy@Work

“For example, Toronto-based energy management consultant Scott Rouse <Energy@Work> points to commercial office clients enrolled in an Ontario incentive program with a prerequisite for annual energy savings of at least 5 per cent.

“We have surpassed $700,000 in verified electricity savings alone across 12 properties and without capital investment,” he reports. “Future savings will grow exponentially as capital investments are made, creating greater efficiency and local jobs to support our economy.”

Energy@Work’s commitment to do more extended to joining the 3% Energy Efficiency Club and providing support to others for equally satisfying results.


Your Enterprise could be Eligible for Funding!

The federal government is offering $72 million in funding to Ontario small and medium enterprises (499 or fewer employees) to decrease energy use and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as part of their carbon pricing plan.

The Climate Action Incentive Fund was introduced on July 17, 2019. Applications are open for 90 days, until October 14, 2019. Funding is provided on a first come, first served basis.

Eligible projects can receive $20,000 up to $250,000 in funding, or 25% of a project’s total cost.

Eligible projects include improvements and updates to:

  • Building envelope

  • Lighting systems

  • HVAC system and controls

  • Building Automation Systems

  • District energy and heating

Projects must be new with a completion deadline of March 2021 and cannot result in higher GHG emissions

If you

  • are an SME

  • are not registered on an output-based pricing system

  • have a defined project of more than $80,000

  • have a project that will reduce energy use
